The Important of Useing ICT

1.Background.

Nowadays, we lived in an information age. And in this new information age, we meet the new challenges of the 21st century, including all the students, even adults. Moreover, it requires the students to have some basic skills. For example, as we are bombarded with massive amounts of information every day, we should master the ability of information literacy, that is more important for the students. Not only have the students met the challenges, but also our teachers. Technology develops quickly and many countries have built the information superhighway with good computers and good software and well-trained teachers, as well as our country. But there is some special difference. We don’t have the well-trained teachers. Indeed, without trained and experienced teachers, the computer equipment sits idle in classroom, unused. We need the teachers to learn new skills to be able use that equipment. And in new age, a basic objective of education is for each student to learn how to identify needed information, locate and organize it, and present it in a clear and persuasive manner. So, what skills can help the teachers to master the equipments and appricate it into the instruction and help us to achieve the basic objective of education? The skill is ICT.

2.What is ICT?

ICT means Information and Communications Technology that has been an important feature of life in our society. So why the skill is ICT?

3.The effect of ICT.

Firstly, it is becoming clear that ICT play an important role in teaching and learning. Because ICT can help the students to develop the appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes in order for them to be able to operate in an ICT-rich world. Secondly, the ability to use ICT to find, process, analyse, present and disseminate ideas and information and the ability to make informed judgements on and so on, are becoming indispensable skills in today’s world. Thirdly, ICT is fast becoming a “critical filter”: the possession of the capablity to make optimal use of ICT in a variety of environments is leading to more attractive job prospects and better life chances.

There are also many effects of ICT from recent research except the above.

Firstly, much of the research focuses on the role of ICT in the successful development of cognitive skills. Secondly, in ICT-rich environments, young people can develop new forms of learning, including the types of self-managed and cooperative learning necessary for successfully contributing to the information economy and for lifelong learning. Thirdly, some of the more recent research indicates how the introduction of ICT into schools has changed them in various fundamental ways and has helped them to create environments that produce improved forms of teaching and learning that have relevance for the information economy.

4.How to teach ICT?

First, all teachers will have modern multimedia computers in their classrooms. Second, all teachers in the nation will have the training and support they need to help students learn using computers and the information superhighway. Third, identify clearly what skills the pupils needed in order to benefit from using the computers in the areas of literacy and numeracy they had targeted. Fourth, ensure that the pupils’ skills were adequate so that pupils could concentrate on the specific subject objectives.

   In a word, ICT is very useful in our education. By making good use of ICT in classrooms, it can improve our instruction easily. So study it, then use it.
